Ross Kalla:  Bass Guitar:      studioross2.jpg (76877 bytes)

Ross has played in a few bands over the last 20 years from unknown art-punk outfits like Castrate Me Boy Sex Man and Spin O-T to unknown funk-soul funsters United Groove and the virtually unknown electro bands Tic Toc Tek and Dekonstrukt.  After a particularly nasty incident behind the keyboards at The Punter’s Club, Ross decided that he should play something that could be used as a weapon in extreme circumstances.  One late night a ‘tired and emotional’ Ross ‘heard’ electric bass for the first time and his life changed forever.

Firstly, he stopped playing under the various pseudonyms and aliases he had been using (V.V. Voorhees, Kevin ‘Superbad’ Rosebud etc).  Next, he moved into a self-contained cave with nothing but an Ibanez Blazer and for seven years he meditated on ‘the one’.  Finally, a tired, underweight but funky Ross emerged from his hermetic isolation and moved to the bush.  He could no longer cope with the pace of life, the hustle and the straight ahead rhythm sections of the city.

Ross’ influences include Family-Man Barrett, Bootsy, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, James Jamerson and Bill Laswell

Currently Ross is living in a ‘house’ made largely from waste and recycled materials outside Swampy Creek and is listening to music from Kingston, Jamaica, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Fla. Melbourne, Aireys, Torquay/Juc, and Swampy Creek, Vic.
