Kevin
Demmon
Kevin
Demmon was a child of the ‘60s, but alas too young to really enjoy them in his
parochial home town of London, England.
After spending most of his teenage years playing in punk
and post-punk garage bands, Kevin packed up his trusty guitar and headed for
South-East Asia for a spell at the end of the ‘80s. He played with many
different people, in many different bars in many different countries, including
a spell running a beach bar on Koh Samui, Thailand. He developed the uncanny
knack of learning new songs incredibly quickly and remembering them again years
later. This soon earned him the nickname “Juke Box”.
When the thick Asian smoke finally cleared, Kevin found himself in Cairns, Australia, playing evenings at a backpackers hostel and trying to seduce the owners fabulous daughter. In 1991, after a year together in England living on a canal boat, Kevin & Vicki returned to Australia to get married and run the backpackers hostel where they met. A huge variety of international musicians passed through the hostel, and it developed a growing reputation as a muso hangout, with regular jam sessions and a weekly show. Kevin was exposed to an amazing range of musical styles, line-ups and approaches, expanding further his repertoire. He spent some time in an acoustic based duo with a flute player, as well as other solo and band gigs.
In 1999 Kevin & Vicki moved back to Victoria and soon Kevin was playing again, this time with a group of fellow teachers. This evolved into a four piece cover band playing mostly weddings and other private functions.
At the end of 2006, Kevin again moved, this time to Torquay on the Surf Coast. One night he stumbled into a local bar that was having its regular ‘Open Mic’ night, and met Stewart Guthrie. Within a couple of months, they had become a regular feature of the local original music scene.
