Song Story: Hey Soldier
Hey Soldier was inspired by our ANZAC troops and the poem by Dusty (a nurse in the Vietnam war). This song is written from a nurse's point of view, caring for injured soldiers, and the depth of character and lasting commitment required to get through those harrowing times.

Hey Soldier: Hey soldier can’t you hear that sound, hey soldier coming on so loud The books your mother used to read never meant the same to me, and I say Hey soldier it’s time to take your bow, hey soldier done yourself so proud Hey soldier your too young to be flat on your back like that, Hey soldier----, no one fails to come back We can put all the bits back, so true, sew ‘em up safe, make you all brand new Hey soldier, we can smile cause you’ll be fine, Carry you through to the recovery room, this all takes a little while. Hey soldier, I’ll be here while you sleep, Make you strong and worthy, it is your care that I keep. The things my mother used to do, swaddle me tight and hum a low tune---for you Hey soldier the weeks go by so slow, hey soldier no one can ever know. Hey soldier can’t you hear that sound, hey soldier done yourself so proud, When you get back home, we shared things that will never be gone, Hey soldier, even though I will not cry, hey soldier, take your leave till next time.
